Phoenix 500 start time

The Subway Fresh Fit NASCAR 500 will take place February 27, 2011, at Phoenix International Raceway (PIR), in Phoenix, Arizona. The Sprint Cup race is a 500 mile (312 lap) race.

In 2010, Ryan Newman took the checkered flag and a $235,804 purse. In 2009, Mark Martin took home $232,150 for the win in a 600 mile (378 lap) race.

Jimmie Johnson has won four of the past seven Sprint Cup races hosted at Phoenix. Carl Edwards has three Nationwide Series wins and a Sprint Cup victory at PIR.

This is the second race of the 2011 NASCAR season, following a week after the Daytona 500, won this year by Trevor Bayne.

The Phoenix Subway Fresh Fit 500 green flag time is 3:00 pm ET. The race wil be televised on FOX.

Phoenix International Raceway has announced that the track will get a new surface after the Feb. 27 race, with removal of the old track scheduled for March 2011. The front stretch will be widened from 52 to 62 feet to better support side-by-side racing. This track improvement follows the resurfacing of Daytona International Speedway in 2010.

The following weekend, Sunday, March 6, 2011, NASCAR Sprint Cup heads to Las Vegas for a 3:00 pm ET start.
